Humanized Mice from Ralph S. Baric's Lab Used in Wuhan Institute of Virology's Experiments

Updated: Oct 15, 2021

The intrepid @BillyBostickson on Twitter made the huge discovery that humanized mice obtained from Ralph Baric's lab were used in a scientific study conducted by scientists at the Wuhan Institute of Virology and published on the NIH website on May 21, 2020.

Most of the authors of the paper, entitled "Pathogenesis of SARS-CoV-2 in Transgenic Mice Expressing Human Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme 2", are from the Wuhan Institute of Virology:

The study claims to have "successfully developed a SARS-CoV-2 hACE2 transgenic mouse (HFH4-hACE2 in C3B6 mice) infection model." In the Methods section it states that the transgenic mice (HFH4-hACE2 mice) were obtained from Ralph S. Baric's lab and cites the pivotal 2016 study conducted by Ralph S. Baric et al. at UNC, entitled "SARS-like WIV1-CoV poised for human emergence."

The Menachery et al. study passed wild bat coronavirus through human/mouse chimeras to make it more virulent and dangerous to humans.
